eCl@ss serves as a semantics for machine-to-machine communication. Unambiguous information eliminates errors and enables quantum leaps in the production and distribution of goods.
Products move independently through production operations, and unrestricted, accurate information allows processes to organize and structure themselves. Individualized production can be realized economically with hardly any economies of scale needed – all the way down to batch sizes of one. Because when packaging and distribution take place automatically, inefficiencies are dramatically decreased.
In addition to traditional applications in procurement, controlling, production and distribution, eCl@ss demonstrates its particular strengths when used for cross-enterprise process-data management and in engineering functions. eCl@ss enables standardized digital data transfer. This allows classifications and product-description properties to be exchanged across the value chain. In addition, eCl@ss works closely with BMEcat to ensure that all new catalog additions are described. Internal codes and categories also have a place here, because the open system enables the addition of internal product and service descriptions.
For Industry 4.0 applications, a product’s complete life cycle must be covered. This includes static data as well as variable process data, information on executable operations, and other data. To ensure semantic interoperability, unambiguous information is needed in this context too, indicating what the determined values actually stand for.
